This movie is an old one that I got around to watching on a lazy weekend. I expected it to be some B-Rated Sex-Crazed Slasher pic but it was actually ... so much more than that? And I'm super surprised by how much I enjoyed it?
Some of the biggest points I'd like to make:
+ Although the movie centers around sexuality, all of the main characters are female
+ One of the mains, Bex, is trans, and played by an actual trans actress, Hari Nef
+ And, perhaps my favorite part, the beginning opens with a montage of trigger warnings
The movie in general is enjoyable to anyone who likes their horror mixed with a little comedy and a lot of blood, but I think the best parts are the absolute unforgiving voice overs by the MC about the hypocritical way people treat women - be strong, but soft - be prude, but a whore - be smart, but dumb. At it's core, Assassination Nation is a loud, in your face, Feminist Reading.
Have you seen it? Let me know in the comments what you thought!
